June 21st is observed as World Music Day. Also known as ‘Fete de la Musique’ this annual celebration of music originated in 1982 at France. Ever since, countries across the world celebrate music through various performances, seminars and programmes imbibing and propagating this universal language. Music has an innate significance in our lives. It transcends all societal and regional barriers and touches the soul of a person. From the moment of birth till death music plays an important role in the lives of mankind. Be it a mother’s lullaby, a harvest song, a revolutionary poem or entertainment music, we have all been embraced by music at one point or the other in life. Above all music today has made path breaking progress in the field of music therapy using it for palliative care. Today we celebrate music as a universal phenomenon that has the power to educate, entertain and heal.
